Occupant Protection Incentive Grant Program

Section 405, the Occupant Protection Incentive Grant program is authorized under the Transportation Efficiency Act of the 21st Century (TEA-21). The program is administered by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) at the federal level, and in Alabama by the Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division of ADECA. The program provides incentive grants to encourage effective programs to reduce highway deaths and injury resulting from individuals riding unrestrained or improperly restrained in motor vehicles. These funds are to be used to implement programs that will target seat belt and child safety seat increase.

Objective:
Identify low use areas and populations and develop programs to heighten increase.

Eligible Activities:
Child seat clinics, loaner programs (limited), child seat installation certification training (two levels), public information & education.
