Section 410, the Alcohol-impaired Driving Countermeasure Incentive Grant Program is jointly administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at the federal level, and in Alabama by the Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division of ADECA. Funds are used to provide overtime compensation to law enforcement officers engaged in the enforcement of the DUI laws.
Objective:
To reduce DUI, drinking and driving related crashes, injuries, and fatalities through enforcement, education and youth alcohol initiatives, i.e. sting operations.
Eligible Applicants:
County, municipal, and state government.
Eligible Activities:
Overtime enforcement.
Section 163, Safety Incentives to Prevent the Operation of Motor Vehicles by Intoxicated Persons, is authorized by the Transportation Efficiency Act of the 21st Century (TEA-21) and administered in Alabama by the Law Enforcement and Traffic Safety Division of ADECA. Funds are used to provide overtime to law enforcement agencies for the enforcement of DUI laws and for limited purchases of related equipment.
Objective:
To increase the number of man-hours dedicated to DUI enforcement through youth alcohol initiatives, i.e. sting operations; to reduce DUI related crashes, injuries and fatalities through enforcement and education activities.
Eligible Applicants:
County, municipal and state law enforcement agencies.
Eligible Activities:
Overtime enforcement.
