Enterprise Community Program

The purpose of the Empowerment Zone and Enterprise Community Program is to enhance the economic structure of impoverished areas through infrastructure and resource development and mobilization.

Funds Received

During fiscal year 1999, ADECA received a $4,998,000.00 Empowerment Zone Grant for three communities. These funds will be available until the end of fiscal year 2004.

Distribution of Funds:

The $4.99 million received by ADECA is used as follows:

  • $980,000.00 to Birmingham Enterprise Community
  • $1,470,000.00 to Chamber County (East Ala Regional)
  • $2,352,000.00 to Greene and Sumter Counties
  • $98,000.00 will be used by ADECA for program administration
