Long-Term Community Recovery
In April 2011, many Alabama communties were impacted by severe storms that produced multiple tornadoes. To help these communities recover, Gov. Robert Bentley signed Executive Order No. 18 on June 13 which named the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to be the coordinating agency under the direction of the Governor’s Office for long term recovery efforts.
Six areas of community recovery have been identified, and task forces are being established to address those needs. These task forces are partnerships between public, private and nonprofit sectors that will provide resources, services and personnel to help with each need.
The six areas include:
- Housing
- Economic Recovery
- Infrastructure Systems
- Health and Social Resources
- Community Planning and Capacity Building
- Natural and Cultural Resources
In the coming weeks, this website will be updated with more information about the long term recovery efforts.
