Welcome to Alabama’s Passport to Fitness

Whether you’ve lived your life in Alabama or you’ve just arrived, a paradise of surprise awaits you on the 85 walks featured on this website. This project was developed by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), and its purpose is to promote Alabama’s many fitness opportunities.

Welcome centers across the state, as well as each community with Passport Trails, will provide you with an official Passport Guide that contains maps of the trails and points of interest.  To download the complete Passport Guide, select from the general menu to the right of this page.

To make things more fun for you and your family, the ADECA project team created a section within the guide called “Passport Stamp Page.”  Present this page, on location, for each featured walk you complete and receive an official passport stamp.  As you collect the stamps, you will be walking your way to fitness and better health!  Click here to download the passport stamp page where you can select each individual trail stamp and access information about that trail. 

Finally, the following link will lead you to the interactive GIS Passport to Fitness web page (requires Adobe Flash Player 9 or above) where the exploration can begin at your fingertips.  Here, you will discover a virtual map that contains street maps and aerial imagery for each trail. The trails are indicated by the  symbol.  As you zoom in on the maps, you will discover greater detail.  The further you zoom, the more details you see.  The control tab allows you to toggle between aerial imagery and street maps.   A tab for live maps is also available, which allows you to select each feature.  All of the trail paths are highlighted in red, and the points of interest are designated by yellow stars.  As you click on each star, you will discover photographs highlighting some of Alabama’s natural beauty.  In addition, a transparency button is featured to allow for differing combinations of visibility.
