The Energy Division's Alternative Transportation Fuels Program encourages and promotes the use of alternative transportation fuels as a way to increase the overall efficiency of the transportation system, improve air quality, and promote energy independence. An extensive network of alternative fuel stakeholders has been established and is working to accelerate the availability and use of alternative fuels, especially renewable fuels such as biodiesel and ethanol, in Alabama. Clean Biofuel Corridors are being developed to provide public access to these fuels along Interstate I-65 and Appalachian Development Corridors X and V in the state.
