As part of supporting various U.S. Census programs and the State Data Center Program, OWR gathers population estimates that include group quarters and municipal boundaries, which are used to produce population and income estimates for the state, every county and all incorporated areas. The Alabama County Data Book and Municipal Data Book are published as part of OWR’s support to the Census Bureau and provided at no cost to Alabama’s agencies, organizations, legislators, and citizens needing population and other statistical data. Currently, both these publications are out of print but we are working to update them. Continue to check back on this site for updated information on when they will be available.

OWR is also working to integrate this data into a geographical information system (GIS) format so that maps and other methods of displaying spatial data can be used to help better understand the data and help to analyze trends that are occurring over time.
