The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) was created by the Legislature in 1983.  The Legislature indicated that a primary purpse of ADECA was to "ecourage comprehensive and coordinated planning and programming of economic and community affairs".  Over the years the wide range of ADECA programs have been adminstered with this purpose in mind.  The department provides a single location where local goverments, non-profits, and all citizens within the state can come for assistance with their community and economic development issues.  By working together as a team, the divisions of ADECA can focus resources more effectively to address the many challenges that confront Alabama communities.

The site is a reference source of programs, the primary purpose of which is to assist users in identifying programs that meet specific objectives and to obtain general information on assistance programs.  In addition, the intent of the listing is to improve coordination and communication between the Federal government, State and local governments, individuals, non-profits, and for profit organizations.

The site provides the user with access to programs as the notifications are identified and listed.  Regular distribution of grant information will be sent to a list serv of recipents: city, county, state, non-profit and local offices will receive definitions of the types of assitance under which programs are administered, general proposal writing techniques, various grant application procedures and additional sources of information.  ADECA is seeking to establish a method of identifying applicants for all grants, so that the citizens of Alabama can be assured that we are leaving no stone unturned when looking to generate economic growth for the state.

Programs selected for inclusion in the assistance database are defined as any funtion that provides assistance or benefits for:  the state, county, city, other political subdivision, grouping or instrumentality thereof;  any domestic profit or nonprofit corporations, institution or individual other than an agency of the federal government.
